ALPHA

Our first Alpha session held on Thursday (31 August) evening went well. We are still open for signups.  Come along – bring a friend – bring many friends! There’s no obligation to continue if you decide it’s not for you.

Click here to find out more!

Can you help?
We’re looking for a little bit of help to ensure the smooth running of Alpha. In particular, are you able to help with a bit of catering? We’re going for a light touch this year, so plan on only three dinners, with dessert for the rest of the evenings. There will be a clipboard at service this Sunday if you can volunteer or please email the office – the more we get the less we each have to do!

The Collective

The Youth Group Battle is on. So Join us and show the St.Johns youth group their place (in a friendly manner). We leave at 6:30PM from @tekororiaka and Johnsonville provides food after 9PM so you might want to have some Dinner before Youth this week

Giving

On our Patronal Fesitval  Gregor Coster spoke to the congregation about the opportunities to support the work of Karori Anglican financially.  Specifically, we have a loan to service (that enabled the building works to be completed) as well as the opportunity to fund our Youth Minister.  If you would like to give to a specific thing – building, youth salary, vicarage refurbishment, then please just put that in your online banking reference.  You can also email accounts@karorianglican.org.nz and let Jasmine (our accounts administrator) know.

There is also the option to make a bequest to Karori Anglican in your will. Gregor’s slides can be viewed here : Patronal Sunday 13 August 23

We need your continued financial support for the operation of the Parish, including Te Korōria.  If you were previously giving to the building of Te Korōria (and have now completed your pledge) Thanks so much!  Please prayerfully consider continuing that level of support. We are very thankful to the many generous givers in our Karori Anglican community.

If you need further information on how to give, a giving number or information on how to set up a bequest, please contact accounts@karorianglican.org.nz

Rachel Turner in Wellington

Message from Gendy Thomson,  Archdeacon for Mission and Ministry

Hello clergy and Godly admin folk!
I wanted to bring to your attention, for advertising in your mission units and for yourselves, the upcoming opportunity for learning for parents, church leaders and anyone interested in family discipleship and supporting parents to disciple their kids.  Rachel Turner will be in Wellington 17th and 18th September, held at our own St Johns, in Johnsonville Wellington.  The Sunday evening session if especially for Parents; the ‘Day with Rachel Turner’ is more especially for church leadership.  PLEASE consider this being on your agenda, learning how to disciple our parents so they can disciple our children.
Attached are the details from Scripture Union.”

Fundraising Concert for the Wellington City Mission – Sunday, 17 Sep, 2pm

Wellington City Mission

On Sunday 17 September 2023 at 2 p.m. Roy Tankersley (harpsichord) and Mark Whitfield (organ) will give a recital at St Pauls Lutheran Church, 12-King Street, Mt Cook, to support the Wellington City Mission’s major new building development: Whakamaru (to shelter and protect) which the Mission hopes will reshape the way it cares for our city.

The programme features works by seven composers, including Francois Couperin, George F. Händel, Johann S. Bach from the Baroque period as well as a recent one by James Woodman. Most will be played on organ and harpsichord in unison. During the interval, the Assistant City Missioner, Mr. Paul Weaver, will give a talk.

Light refreshments will be served after the concert.

Entry will be by koha; $20 per person is suggested.

Please note that parking is available at Massey University ($1 per hour) at 18 King Street (take the ramp off King Street).

Accommodation needed

Andrew Tipping (who grew up in Karori) and his wife and two young children are needing somewhere to stay in Wellington from February 6 – 23 next year, during their visit from London. Would anyone have a house or flat etc that they could lend them for any of this period?

Please contact his parents Simon and Rachel on tipping@xtra.co.nz if you might be able to help. Thank you.

The rosters for September and October can be found here. Please note that this document is accurate as at the publication of this Newsletter. The actual roster will continue to change as people request changes.

Sabbatical Leave

Please note that our Vicar, Rev Ian Cook will be away on sabbatical from Monday, 19th June for three months.  Sabbatical leave is an important time to reflect, learn and be renewed for priests.  Ian is visiting Australia and Europe during this period and will be taking part in learning communities, retreats and visiting various parishes in the United Kingdom.  In Ian’s absence, we have a number of people temporarily taking on particular roles. If in doubt about who to talk to about anything, please contact the office in the first instance.
