Cursillo
We are pleased to advise that we have two Cursillo’s taking place this year, a men’s and woman’s Cursillo on 20-23 June at El Rancho, Waikanae. Both Cursillo’s although being on the same weekend will be run separately.
Cursillo is a short course on ‘Christian Living’ but it is more than this. This is a lay ministry run through the Anglican Church. We have two teams who have trained hard the past year and have put together some fantastic talks and testimonies to share throughout the weekend. Cursillo is a time when we draw closer to the Lord in our relationship with him and a time to simply come and experience all that he has for us. It is a time to be blessed with so many unexpected blessings throughout the weekend and to experience Christ’s love in action as well as fellowship with those around you. Meals are all provided and you will have your own bedroom. Cursillo is such a gift to us all. If you would like to come and experience a Cursillo as a pilgrim our weekends are on:

Christ’s College Cambridge Choir
We are excited to announce that the Christ’s Choir of Cambridge are putting on a concert here at St Mary’s Anglican Church, on Sunday evening of July the 14th. Keep an eye out for more details to come.
In the meantime we are looking for parishioners who would be interested in hosting a member of the choir (or multiple) for the night of the 14th. There are approximately 24 members of the choir who will be travelling to New Zealand.

Giving
Thanks for your responses (and ongoing prayer) for funding Karori Anglican’s work and mission.
We know that everyone’s circumstances are unique and commend your giving to prayerful consideration. Our goal is to increase our giving by 20% – please consider your regular donations as to whether you are able to increase your giving to help us meet this goal. A huge thank you to those 15 people / families who have increased their giving in the last 4 weeks. Also to the three youth / students who have also started giving with several other new givers in the church.

Tower Update
The Bell Tower repairs and repainting are underway. There should be no disruption to the usual people and traffic flows. Painting has begun!

An Exciting New Track for Karori and New Access to Zealandia!
KĀKĀ(Karori Kaitiaki) has teamed up with Rotary, supported by WCC and Zealandia, to design, fund and build an exciting new track from Birdwood Street – through Birdwood Reserve – to Zealandia.
For decades Birdwood Reserve has been largely ignored despite being at the very entrance to Karori. It is a beautiful stream gully, but steep sided and hard to access other than via the round the Sanctuary, Saint John’s Pool track. As a result, Birdwood Reserve had been unloved, weedy and full of rubbish.
KĀKĀ and its predecessor Friends of Birdwood Reserve members have in recent years pulled literally truckloads of rubbish out of the reserve, as well as weeding, planting and trapping pests.
Zealandia visitors increasingly park or arrive by bus at Appleton Park. The new track will give visitors a more beautiful, interesting way to get to Zealandia. We also aim to create a greater sense of community ownership, appreciation, and care of Birdwood Reserve through better access and interpretation.
We’ve worked with Council to decide the best route as some parts are steep, and we also need to cross the Kaiwharawhara stream once. This means the track needs to be partly built by contractors, and partly by volunteers. The cost of construction – in cash, materials and labour – is estimated at $90,000. We are now raising funds, and so far have commitments for about half that amount. We’d love your help – whether donations or offers of labour. Funding permitting, we will build the track later this year.
Your journey along the track will be full of potential stories. The Kaiwharawhara Stream (Te Mahanga branch) runs through Birdwood Reserve, from the historic 1870’s Karori Dam in Zealandia, to a tunnel under the 1930s Appleton Park landfill. You’ll pass the 1868-71 Golden Crown gold mine and the 1909 and 1933 St John’s Pools. You could also learn about the Wellington fault, fish and fish ladders, community care for the valley, and more.
