NEW MINISTRY ADMINISTRATOR – JONO SORENSON STARTING 3rd OCTOBER

Jono is starting with us as Ministry Administrator from October 3rd.  We are really looking forward to having him on board.  He brings experience in a number of office roles, his music skills (performance and composition) as well as his pilots license!  He will be joining us at the 10.30 service for worship once he’s started, so look out for him and say hi.

CONGRATULATIONS  – TO YVETTE MISCHALSKA OUR ACTING SMASH MANAGER

We are excited to let you know that Yvette is our new SMASH Manager, and will be managing our After School Care Programme.  Tabatha De Longa our previous manager has worked closely with Yvette over the past seven years, and now we are pleased that Yvette has agreed lead the team going forward!  It is great to have someone who is a core member of our congregation at the head of this important ministry to the community.  We are very excited about the future and all the opportunities SMASH will have working together with our Early Childhood Centre and Te Korōria.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED AT THE SPRING WORKING BEE AT ECEC

We had eight parents and five of our congregation who helped out at the working bee.  Lots of jobs were accomplished including waterblasing, painting play equipment, general gardening, cleaning up the grounds, and internal tidy up of the staff room and Activity room.  Heather our centre manager provided lunch.  Thanks again, everyone!

ON TOMORROW!   23 SEPTEMBER 7 PM AT MARSDEN CULTURAL CENTER

If you are able to help on the night by welcoming/serving snacks and taking payments, Kate would love to hear from you.

It’s all set to be a great night! Teams can be 6-8 people, there is a welcome drink on arrival, and guests are invited to bring any other drink they might want.  Light snacks and soft drinks are available for purchase.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE MANNA MINISTRY MEALS
Thank you everyone who has re-stocked our Manna meals freezer over the last few weeks.  It was great to also hear about the fun time people have had cooking together!  These meals are kept in the Church Office freezer and we give them out to families in need.  This can be people within our congregation or in the wider community.  It’s such an amazing ministry to be able to have these to hand at a moments notice, it truly does make a huge difference in someone’s day to know a meal or two are sorted.  So a big thanks to all the chefs and those that provided ingredients!

LATEST TE KORŌRIA UPDATE
The roofing is complete!  The first photo above is inside the main entrance looking toward the courtyard at the far end.  This was taken on a gloomy, rainy day, showing how light and open a space this will be.  The second photo is taken from the far end of the cafe space looking back towards the soft play room and entrance.  Our Gib has also arrived, and once the windows are in by mid October our site will be weather proof!    The exterior RAB is nearly complete (you can see it turning from a green exterior to rusty colour)    T

We really appreciate all the amazing donations we have received so far.  So far we have received over $56,000 donated towards fit-out costs which is fantastic.  There are still lots of items to fund if we really want to serve the community well.   Keep those little orange books coming back, or contact Kate if you need more information on items or how best to contribute.

Our historic flag went up for auction last Thursday and has raised $42,000.  We also have a brilliant framed image of the flag, which looks very like the real thing! It is going to be proudly displayed inside Te Korōria once we open.

SEASON OF CREATION 1 SEPTEMBER – 4 OCTOBER

Together during the Season of Creation, Christians around the world unite in prayer and action to protect God’s creation.  The Season of Creation starts on 1 September, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends on 4 October, the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi.  Many Anglicans take this opportunity to reflect on their relationship with creation, and to consider how God may be calling them further into Anglican Communion’s fifth mark of mission: “To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth”.
